Corneal Ring Implantation

Corneal Ring Implantation is a surgical procedure in which a ring of plastic will be inserted into the middle layer of your cornea. This surgery is used to treat pellucid marginal degeneration or poor vision due to keratoconus. It is also used to correct refractive errors mainly mild myopia.

During the surgery, the surgeon makes tunnels under the outer layer of the cornea through small incisions and then places the ring segments into these tunnels.

Some possible risks of this procedure include keratitis, perforation of your eye, ring extrusion or movement, swelling, night halos or glare, chronic eye pain, infection, and astigmatism.
